Last week, I decided to make a traffic light for my final project.
I started by finding an image of a traffic light, putting it on a canvas and calibrating the size. It turns out that US traffic lights are usually 12 inches across.
It looks like the metal part of the traffic light consists of three covers that attach to a base. I started by making the covers.

Luckily, the image I found also includes near-perpendicular views of the light, making it easy to find z-axis dimensions. To figure out how much to extrude the shades, I used the line tool.
Oh no… I had no idea the covers were at an angle! Let's just draw it flat for now.
I moved these bodies into a new component, and then made two copies of the component.
I made the front part of the base using two bodies, with the inset one slightly more recessed in order to accomodate the covers.
Then I created the "toblerone" shape in the back:
